Morningstar reports 1,018 new ETFs launched globally in Q2, of which 647 (63.6%) were actively managed. The U.S. led issuance with 494 funds (48.5%). Mainland China recorded 120 new ETFs, a quarterly record; Korea added 89 and Canada 72; other regions combined for 119. Within new active ETFs, equity strategies (258) and trading-tool strategies (227) accounted for roughly 75% of launches. Active equity launches included nearly 80 U.S. target-income and U.S. derivatives-based yield option strategy funds. Among trading-tool ETFs, 168 were single-stock leveraged or inverse products covering 149 underlying names: 116 long-direction, 19 short-direction; 23 stocks were tracked by two or more ETFs, showing high overlap and competition.
