A U.S. federal judge on Aug. 26 lifted a nationwide injunction against a new
U.S. Postal Service rule requiring states to redesign ballot envelopes and
upload voter rolls to USPS; the rule allows USPS to refuse to mail ballots that
do not meet preparation and data requirements, the court action was reported
Aug. 27 local time. The U.S. government has repeatedly proposed deploying
federal law-enforcement or ICE personnel near polling sites, and the Justice
Department is preparing to deploy about 1,000 election monitors; several of
these measures still face legal and political resistance.
