At a regular briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said a
Japanese civic group's exhibition in Yokohama showcased production and use of
poison gas by the Imperial Japanese Army in WWII in China and Southeast Asia.
Lin said Japan's wartime militarism flagrantly violated international law by
producing and employing chemical weapons that caused severe harm, and criticized
right-wing attempts to obfuscate responsibility, including claims that legacy
chemical munitions are harmless or that liability has lapsed. China urged the
Japanese government to fulfill its obligations, heed victims and responsible
domestic voices, fully implement international conventions and the Sino-Japan
government memorandum, accelerate disposal of Japan's wartime leftover chemical
weapons, and restore contaminated land to the Chinese people.
