DRC Health Minister Kamba said on Aug. 27 the country began Ervebo vaccinations in Kisangani, capital of Tshopo province, with frontline health workers among the first recipients. The current outbreak is caused by Bundibugyo ebolavirus, for which no vaccine or specific therapy is approved. Ervebo is approved for Zaire ebolavirus; its protective effect against Bundibugyo in humans is unclear, though early laboratory and animal data suggest it may offer some protection.
