SK Hynix is studying the feasibility of producing memory chips in Japan via a
joint venture as one of several options to meet surging AI-driven demand and
control production costs, SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won said. The company is
evaluating multiple Japanese locations with adequate power and water and
declined to name potential partners or sites. SK Group oversees the
conglomerate’s major investment allocations across energy, telecoms and
semiconductors.
