Aug. 31 — Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a routine briefing
that a glacier collapse in the Nepal-border area triggered a severe debris flow
causing significant casualties and missing persons in China and Nepal. China
launched emergency self-rescue and immediately extended assistance to Nepal,
supporting its relief operations. As of yesterday noon, all Chinese nationals
contacted in the Nepal disaster area have been relocated and are in safe
condition. China is making all-out efforts to search for domestic and foreign
missing persons and is in close contact with foreign embassies in China to
coordinate identification and follow-up for missing foreign nationals.
