The U.S. State Department on Aug. 26 updated its Israel travel advisory to permit U.S. government employees to be accompanied by family members, while warning parts of Israel remain high-risk. The advisory prohibits U.S. government employees from traveling to areas north of Highway 85 through the southern segment of Highway 90 to Highway 87; areas within 7 miles (≈11.3 km) of the Gaza Strip; and areas within 1.5 miles (≈2.4 km) of the Israel–Egypt border, except the vicinity of the Taba crossing

The advisory prohibits U.S. government employees from traveling to areas north of Highway 85 through the southern segment of Highway 90 to Highway 87; areas within 7 miles (≈11.3 km) of the Gaza Strip; and areas within 1.5 miles (≈2.4 km) of the Israel–Egypt border, except the vicinity of the Taba crossing. U.S. government personnel must obtain approval from the U.S. Embassy in Israel security office to perform official duties in those restricted areas.
