Two sources said the Trump administration could approve expanded biofuel blending waivers for U.S. refineries as soon as Monday to blunt rising gasoline prices. The EPA is expected to grant waivers to a batch of small refineries covering more than 1.8 billion renewable fuel credits (RINs), filings include Marathon Petroleum (MPC.N) and Chevron (CVX.N). That would be roughly double the volume the agency initially planned to issue this year. Agricultural-state lawmakers pushed the White House not to exceed earlier waiver levels; farmers warn waivers would cut crop demand, and officials remain divided on whether the expansion would materially lower pump prices. Under pressure from farm-state allies, the EPA is also considering reopening the 2027 biofuel mandate and adding about 500 million (or possibly more) RINs to offset harm to farmers.
