Oxford Economics says Canada's planned retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods, due to take effect Sept. 8 and covering roughly C$27.5 billion of annual trade (about US$19.8 billion), will shelter some domestic manufacturers but raise costs and hurt most industries, weighing on national GDP by increasing producer and consumer costs. Ontario and Quebec face the biggest hit given concentrated manufacturing exposure; Atlantic provinces and British Columbia will also be pressured as higher prices and weaker household purchasing power dampen their service-led economies.
