U.S. Vice President Vance said Washington’s current priority is ensuring
commercial traffic can transit the Strait of Hormuz. In a Fox News interview he
said Sunday’s U.S. strike on Larak Island was intended to prevent Iran from
laying sea mines in the strait. He accused Iran’s leadership of trying to choke
oil and gas exports, called the tactic strategically unwise and “really crazy,”
and said Washington had expected Tehran might take such steps.
