The Trump administration has stepped up economic pressure on Iran and is threatening military strikes, former US ambassador to Tunisia Joey R. Hood said in an interview. Hood said Trump "is clearly aware of the limits of military strikes" but warned sanctions will not suddenly change Tehran's behavior. He noted it took two years of US sanctions to bring Iran to the negotiating table and produce the 2015 nuclear deal. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said an Indian tanker became a strike target of U.S. Central Command. The vessel is owned by an Indian company and was loaded with cargo at a UAE port. CENTCOM used the ship's former name when issuing a warning; the crew did not realize the message was directed at them and did not respond. CENTCOM subsequently treated the lack of response as a provocation and designated the ship a strike target.
