EU foreign policy chief kallas said on Wednesday member states called for new
sanctions on Russia after an attempted drone strike at Leipzig/Halle airport.
The airport, a major eastern German civil cargo and NATO logistics hub and base
for several Antonov An-124 transport aircraft, was the target. Germany accused
Moscow, calling the incident part of a hybrid campaign to intimidate countries
that backed Ukraine and to sow internal divisions; Russia denied involvement and
vowed to respond to alleged "anti-Russian actions." kallas said the attack
"bears all the hallmarks of state-supported terrorism" and pledged a firm
response. The EU is studying sanctions aimed at Russia's military-industrial
complex. France's foreign minister urged action against a reported "shadow
fleet" of vessels accused of evading energy sanctions.
