The Hungarian national meteorological service said on the 2nd that August 2026 nationwide average temperature reached 24.9°C, 3.7°C above the 1991–2020 mean, the highest single-month average since records began in 1901. Multiple locations recorded August averages above 25°C, parts of the southern Great Plain exceeded 26°C, surpassing the previous national single-month record of 24.6°C set in August 1992.
