Multiple South Korean outlets citing government and military sources reported
Thursday night that Seoul is preparing to deploy forces to support freedom of
navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and aims to dispatch related units by
year‑end, pending National Assembly approval. Reported options under
consideration include maritime patrol aircraft, logistics support vessels and
mine countermeasure units; Seoul has reportedly discussed force composition and
participation with the US, UK and France. The South Korean presidential office
said discussions on ways to support navigation have been ongoing but that
reports claiming a deployment plan has been finalized are inaccurate.
