A South Korean government official said Friday Seoul and Washington are
discussing South Korean companies' semiconductor investment in the United States
within a broader bilateral consultation framework. When asked whether the chip
tariff plan disclosed by US Commerce Secretary Lutnick is affecting the
investment talks, the official said various issues between the two countries
sometimes interact and can influence one another. He added semiconductor
investment is among the investment topics under discussion and that officials
are working to prevent these issues from constraining each other.
