Heavy rains have caused flooding in parts of Jiangxi, including Nanchang and
Ji'an. On Sept. 5 the National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the
Ministry of Emergency Management activated a national level-4 disaster emergency
response. Citing the national natural disaster relief emergency plan and
provincial damage assessments, the National Development and Reform Commission
urgently allocated 20 mln yuan of central budget investment to support Jiangxi’s
post-flood emergency restoration, prioritizing repairs to damaged roads and
water-conservancy infrastructure and emergency reconstruction of schools,
hospitals and other public-service facilities to restore normal production and
living order.
