Iraq’s Transport Ministry said on Sept. 9 a Panama‑flagged fuel tanker was
struck by an unidentified object at 05:30 local time in Iraqi territorial
waters, causing hull damage. There were no casualties and no cargo leakage.
Security and maritime authorities isolated and are monitoring the vessel and
conducting surveys of surrounding waters to check for spills, other damage and
navigation risks. Authorities are investigating the incident and probing the
origin and cause of the strike.
