The IEA said on Thursday it expects global coal demand in 2026 to rise 1.2% to a record 8.94 billion tonnes. It cited disruptions to oil and LNG shipments via the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the US‑Iran war, which have lifted fuel prices and prompted countries with gas-fired capacity and idle coal plants to boost coal-fired generation.

Ukraine's foreign minister urged the international community after the Sumy incident to take further action: strengthen Ukraine's ability to close its airspace, curb Russia's capacity to manufacture weapons, and increase pressure on resources supporting Russia's war effort.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention, US President Trump said Venezuela’s oil — put at about 65 billion barrels — is “ours” and could supply the US for 500 years. The US and Venezuela announced a deal to introduce investment and boost Venezuelan output through joint development of 17 strategic fields with proven potential of ~65 bln bbl. Venezuelan representative Delcy Rodriguez said the alliance will allow private operators to participate; planned investment exceeds $100bn and is expected to generate more than $200bn in tax revenue for Venezuela.
