Politico reports U.S. congressional Democrats say that if they win control in
November’s midterms they will make Defense Secretary Hegseth a primary target.
They are planning public hearings, investigations and potential subpoenas into
Iran war policy, war-crime allegations, Pentagon contracting and alleged purges
of senior officers; some Democrats may push for House impeachment. Hegseth is
described as a polarizing figure who has drawn protests, including from some
Republicans. These probes, if initiated, could disrupt Pentagon leadership and
oversight of defense contracting.
