On Sept. 10 local time, Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister Mohammed
held a phone call with Saudi foreign minister Faisal to discuss bilateral
cooperation and recent regional developments. Mohammed said Qatar supports all
diplomatic efforts to secure freedom of navigation and seeks solutions to
protect shipping, and called for conditions that would enable a comprehensive
agreement and lasting regional peace. He said recent tensions have severely
disrupted Strait of Hormuz shipping, and that the Yemen conflict has escalated,
with Houthi operations along the Red Sea coast further affecting navigation
through the Bab al-Mandeb.
