After Houthi forces took control of the Red Sea port and city of Mocha for
several hours, the Houthi-backed Government of Change and Construction said the
port has resumed operations and that, in the coming days, it will offer
preferential measures for container ships and cargo at multiple Red Sea ports
including Mocha. The statement said discounts or waivers of up to 50% will apply
to vessel and container fees, taxes, duties and other charges. It said the
measures aim to encourage shipping agents to import via seaports to avoid what
it described as high and illegal fees in areas controlled by Saudi-backed armed
groups in southern Yemen, and called on merchants, traders and shipping
companies to use the incentives.
