The Ministry of Natural Resources released the China Mineral Resources Report 2026 and Global Mining Development Report 2026 at the 2026 (28th) China International Mining Congress, saying China holds the world’s largest reserves of 14 minerals, including rare earths, tungsten and tin. The reports warn the accelerating global energy transition is driving deep shifts in mineral supply-demand and pushing global mining into a period of compounded transformation. As of the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan, China’s reserve positions led globally for those 14 minerals. In 2025, domestic geological exploration investment rose for a fifth consecutive year and authorities recorded 200 newly discovered non-oil-and-gas mineral deposits nationwide.
