Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a routine briefing on the 11th
that China has lodged stern representations with Italy and the EU after
pro‑independence Taiwanese politicians attended a meeting in Italy. She
reiterated there is only one China, that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory,
and that Beijing opposes any form of official contacts between its diplomatic
partners and Taiwan. Mao said the One‑China principle is an accepted
international norm and the political basis for China‑Italy and China‑EU
relations, and urged relevant parties to adhere to it in practice.
