Sept 11 — Asked whether China, the U.S. and Russia might hold a trilateral meeting during the APEC summit, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said she had no information to provide.

Goldman Sachs economist Alexandra Wilson‑Elizondo said U.S. CPI was broadly in line with expectations. She warned the print masks recent inflationary pressures—its survey period predates the latest energy spike and the spread of commodity gains into metals and agriculture—so it does not rule out stronger price pressure ahead. The result preserves the Federal Reserve’s option to raise rates without forcing immediate action, she said, and markets will likely focus on Fed communications, energy prices, incoming labor‑market data and subsequent developments rather than today’s report.

U.S. Treasury bought $5.187 bln of 10- to 20-year notes in Thursday’s buyback, below the announced $6.0 bln cap and below market expectations, exacerbating the sell-off and pushing the 10-year yield to its highest level since 2023. While the Treasury is not required to fill the cap, this is the third time in 53 long-term buybacks since the program’s 2024 relaunch that it did not purchase the full amount.
