To blunt the impact on domestic markets, and within the existing pricing mechanism, authorities applied temporary controls. Under the mechanism, Sept 11 standard-grade gasoline and diesel prices would have risen by 435 yuan/ton and 420 yuan/ton respectively; the actual increases implemented were limited to 260 yuan/ton for gasoline and 250 yuan/ton for diesel.
