The UN Security Council on the 11th approved a one-month technical extension of
sanctions authorization for Sudan. China's UN chargé d'affaires Sun Lei said
Beijing voted in favor to allow more time for talks amid clear Council
divisions, but reiterated sanctions are a tool not a substitute for diplomacy.
China urged focus on implementing existing mechanisms and warned that widening
coercive measures could worsen humanitarian conditions, raise the risk of
Sudan's fragmentation, threaten regional stability and undermine the Council's
authority, calling for expedited consensus to help secure a ceasefire and
preserve Sudan's unity.
