He said unilateral sanctions now extend beyond economics to directly affect food security and public welfare, and urged BRICS to expand trade in local currencies and strengthen the New Development Bank to boost members' resilience. Citing US and Israeli military actions against Iran, he warned that attacks on a country's economy, energy and development infrastructure produce regional and global spillovers and said the Iranian people have borne a heavy cost.

Indonesia central bank governor Destry Damayanti said on the 12th at the BRICS summit in New Delhi that BRICS should develop cross‑border payment systems in local currencies to shield their economies from geopolitical risk, while taking into account member countries’ development levels and national priorities. She said Indonesia sees a strategic opportunity to turn shared challenges into collective resilience through pragmatic cooperation, including local‑currency settlement. In a meeting with Reserve Bank of India governor Sanjeev Malhotra they discussed expanding local‑currency settlement mechanisms, establishing bilateral currency swap arrangements and linking cross‑border QR‑code payments; Malhotra said those steps would help convert BRICS agreements into practical financial and economic cooperation.
