An EU official said fragmented bank tax regimes are weighing on competitiveness.

On Sept 13 local time, Canadian Prime Minister Carney said Canada is seeking a "unique alliance" with the EU but does not intend to become an EU member. He said Canada will begin consultations with the EU on creating the alliance and will visit France and the UK, speak at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, attend European Commission President von der Leyen's State of the Union address, and meet French President Macron in Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Earlier reports said Canada was exploring possible "associate member" status with the EU.
