China foreign minister Wang Yi spoke by phone with Latvia’s foreign minister on
the 14th. Latvia said the two countries maintain pragmatic cooperation and
expect closer communication to advance bilateral ties. Latvia reported 33 of its
citizens are missing after a debris flow triggered by an ice-and-rock collapse
on the Nepal side that affected Nepal and China’s Tibet Autonomous Region,
thanked China’s notifications and rescue efforts, and said it will coordinate
with Beijing on follow-up. Wang Yi said China treats Chinese and foreign
nationals equally, will continue all-out search-and-rescue operations, make
every effort to locate missing Latvian and other foreign nationals, and will
handle subsequent arrangements appropriately.
