The National Bureau of Statistics said China’s August surveyed urban
unemployment rate rose 0.1 ppt to 5.3%, attributing the increase mainly to a
seasonal influx of new graduates entering the labor force. The core 30–59 age
group's urban surveyed unemployment rate held at 3.9% month-on-month and
year-on-year. By sector, manufacturing employment was broadly stable;
information transmission, software and IT services saw a marked rise in
employment; accommodation and catering continued to expand jobs, supported by
domestic tourism, helping stabilize overall employment.
