On Sept. 15 the Russian Defence Ministry said Tu-95MS long-range strategic
bombers conducted a planned flight over neutral waters of the Barents and
Norwegian Seas lasting about five hours. Su-33 naval fighters provided escort.
The ministry said Tu-95MS aircraft were shadowed by foreign fighters at certain
stages. It added that long-range aviation crews regularly operate over neutral
waters of the Arctic Ocean, North Atlantic, Pacific, Baltic and Black Seas and
that flights comply with international airspace rules.
