OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said he is "very confident" AI companies can advance model
capabilities without causing major societal harm while ensuring safety. He said
firms should be able to pursue capability improvements independently and
maintain safety, and he expressed disappointment with the way recent public
discussions about the pace of AI development and the need for regulation have
been conducted. Earlier, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warned of AI risks and urged
slowing development. OpenAI said it is working with Anthropic and Google
DeepMind on AI safety.
