Reuters sources say SK Hynix is in exploratory talks with Intel to manufacture
memory chips in the US for the first time. Options include leasing part of
Intel’s planned Ohio fab or forming a joint venture with Intel and major cloud
service providers seeking to secure memory supply. The deal would ease pressure
on Intel and represent a win for the Trump administration, but potential
pushback from South Korea over sensitive technology is a key obstacle. No
decision has been made and it is unclear which SK Hynix products—DRAM for
servers/PCs/phones, NAND, or high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI processors—would
be produced in Ohio.
