Beijing, Sept 16, 2026 — Wang Yi, member of the CPC Political Bureau and director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, met Brazilian president’s chief special adviser Amorim. China welcomed Brazil’s decision to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization and offered bilateral cooperation to steer AI development toward beneficial uses. The sides agreed to deepen cross-sector cooperation and strengthen strategic coordination on major international and regional issues, including enhanced communication within BRICS and other multilateral forums. They exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, Latin America and the Middle East.

European Commission President Von der Leyen said the EU will establish a "climate insurance alliance" to broaden disaster-insurance coverage.
