BYD Co. Ltd. plans to build four factories in Europe over the long term: three
vehicle assembly plants and one electric-vehicle battery plant, Alfredo
Altavilla, former Fiat Chrysler executive and now BYD Europe adviser, said at an
event in Turin. Altavilla said the project is not immediate but will be
necessary to meet BYD’s sales targets and comply with emerging EU
local-production rules. BYD is negotiating with European automakers and national
governments and is considering acquiring underused plants in France, Spain and
Italy.
