Ten Chinese ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Industry and
Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission,
jointly issued the pharmaceutical industry's 15th Five-Year Plan. The plan
directs accelerated deployment of frontier technologies and products and
supports cross-disciplinary collaboration among drugmakers, universities,
research institutes and hospitals. It calls for faster use of artificial
intelligence, quantum computing, supercomputing and computational medicine in
drug R&D; exploration of extreme manufacturing, space-based drug production and
biomanufacturing for medical products; and deeper application of gene editing,
precision molecular delivery, cell programming and control, advanced omics and
next-generation brain–machine interfaces. Targets include breakthroughs in
synthetic life systems, organoids and organ‑on‑chip, universal cell therapies,
complex regenerative organs, theranostic radiopharmaceuticals and
xenotransplantation to cultivate new growth drivers.
