At the 15th China International Steel Conference on Sept. 20, officials said China’s steel sector has largely exited an extensive scale‑expansion model and is shifting into a high‑end, intelligent and green quality‑upgrade phase. Jiang Wei, vice president and secretary‑general of the China Iron and Steel Association, said the industry is undergoing systemic restructuring driven by integrated innovation, with comprehensive changes in capacity and equipment, product and service offerings and green transition; on a broader industry cycle the sector is moving from scale expansion to competition on quality, with technology‑led, cross‑sector innovation key to the upgrade.
