Qatar foreign ministry spokesman Majid Ansari said on the 20th at the Qatar
Economic Forum in New York that Doha is engaging with the US and Iran to push
for resumption of talks. He said multiple US officials have told Qatar the US
wants a deal to end the conflict. Qatar has exchanged views with both sides in
recent weeks and is trying to bridge differences but gave no timetable for talks
to resume. Ansari said any settlement should secure regional stability and push
the international community to agree on protecting strategic waterways,
including the Strait of Hormuz, and noted the Bab el-Mandeb is already affected
by the regional conflict.
