A study covering 41 countries by Stanford’s Bharat Chandar and King’s College London’s Bouke Klein Teeselink, published Monday, finds firms that adopted AI increased senior-level employment by 6.7% over a five-year period while junior-level employment fell 3%; the share of junior employees declined 1.9 percentage points. The reduction in lower-level staff appears across multiple countries, including Brazil, Saudi Arabia and the UK. The authors say AI has a labor‑saving effect for junior roles and a labor‑expanding effect for senior roles, with junior job losses larger in wealthier, more digitalized economies.
