On Sept. 21 Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Russia on Sept. 18
notified Japan about a US deployment of the 'Tiefeng' medium‑range missile
system to Kyushu and that China has also recently raised concerns with Tokyo.
Guo called the system a strategic offensive weapon, said Japan’s adoption is
further evidence of accelerating remilitarization, and warned it increases the
risk of military confrontation and an arms race, threatens strategic balance and
regional stability, and harms neighbouring countries’ legitimate security
interests. He said China has repeatedly lodged strong protests through
diplomatic channels and has recently notified Japan to reiterate its stern
stance; he added many Asian publics have voiced opposition and the international
community is highly alert.
