The 169th China-Laos-Myanmar-Thailand Lancang-Mekong river joint patrol and
law-enforcement operation formally launched at 09:00 on Sept 21. Ahead of
deployment, the four countries' law-enforcement agencies held a commanders'
meeting and multilateral information exchange in Jinghong to coordinate
cross-border crime suppression and information sharing. During the operation,
task forces will target cross-border illegal activity, tighten control of key
waterways and carry out navigation-safety inspections to safeguard shipping
safety and social stability across the Lancang-Mekong basin.
