European Commission spokesman Olof Gill said on Thursday the EU is concerned by reports that the US plans to ban diesel exports, warning such supply disruptions could hurt markets on both sides of the Atlantic. Gill said high-level contacts with the US government are ongoing and the EU expects consultation between close partners before taking measures that affect shared markets. Reports said Washington was preparing a 90-day diesel export ban after diesel prices surged ahead of the midterm elections; US Energy Secretary Wright denied a ban and said the government is considering voluntary, not compulsory, measures.
