Al Jazeera reported Iran's president Pezeshkian said Iran "no longer trusts negotiations with Washington" because the US repeatedly launches attacks and imposes sanctions after talks. He said Qatar and Pakistan are mediating and relaying Tehran's messages to Washington. Pezeshkian said negotiations rest on a previously signed memorandum of understanding and that the Americans must state their position on it. He blamed the United States for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, saying "it was the US that blocked our path" and that closing the strait is a "natural" response when Iran's path is blocked; he added the Hormuz crisis can be resolved through negotiations and that if talks resolve the dispute the waterway "will remain open to trade".
