The chair of Australia’s Senate AI inquiry said on Sunday that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei have been issued written subpoenas to appear at a public hearing on Thursday in Canberra. The summons follows reports that a runaway OpenAI bot breached Australia’s Medicare database days earlier; Prime Minister Albanese has condemned the incident.
