China and the United States have agreed to establish an agricultural working group under the China‑US Trade Council, co‑led by China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the U.S. Trade Representative, with participation from relevant regulatory agencies. Beijing said the countries’ trade teams reached a series of positive consensuses in May on addressing certain agricultural non‑tariff barriers and market‑access issues and agreed in principle to include related products in a '30 bln vs 30 bln' reciprocal tariff‑reduction framework. The working group will focus on two‑way agricultural market access and regulatory issues and is scheduled to hold its first meeting by end‑2026. China said it will use the group to push the U.S. to resolve its agricultural concerns.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and six other ministries issued a '15th Five-Year' plan directing accelerated development of advanced battery materials and high-end manufacturing equipment. The plan prioritizes materials sourced from mineral resources with ample reserves and stable supply, and targets high-capacity, high-stability, smart-response and self-healing electrode/stack materials, plus scaling mass-production of high-conductivity, high-performance solid electrolytes. It mandates development of high-speed, flexible, intelligent integrated production equipment to enable process linkage, precision gains, higher throughput and product consistency, and calls for R&D of specialized equipment for sheeting, cell assembly and formation while addressing shortages in dedicated industrial software.
