Multiple UN permanent missions told media China is weighing whether to back
UNCTAD secretary-general and former Costa Rican vice‑president Rebeca Grynspan
or Guyana’s UN permanent representative Carolyn Rodrigues‑Birkett in the vote
for the next UN secretary‑general. Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said
Beijing supports, per the UN Charter, selecting a secretary‑general who upholds
the Charter, is highly capable, fair and upright, and that China will
participate in the selection process responsibly with relevant parties.
