Iran’s foreign minister told IRNA he met with Qatar mediators on Monday to discuss proposals to present to the United States and has set conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz; Iran’s Supreme Leader has stressed the strait will reopen only once those conditions are met. He said Iran has conveyed the conditions to the US and the international community and has proposed responses if the US claims to seek an agreement or peaceful resolution. He will return to Tehran within hours and will not stay in New York to await a US reply; Qatar will pass any US response to Iran via appropriate channels. Communications between Qatar and Pakistan mediators remain open and, following Iran’s proposal, have entered a more serious phase.
