Shanghai RAAS said on Sept. 28 it is pursuing the purchase of a CDMO plant held
by Boehringer Ingelheim Biopharmaceuticals (China) as a "strategic positioning"
move to close gaps in its innovative-drug industrialization capability. Vice
chairman and general manager Xu Jun said the company's push into innovative
drugs is not a "do-or-die" gamble; R&D will be funded by stable cash flow from
its blood-products business, via rolling, measured investments, and the company
will not channel all blood-products profits into innovative drugs at once.
