Shareholders approved a final investment decision to expand the Shell (SHEL.N)-led LNG project at Kitimat, British Columbia, greenlighting a second-phase build that will roughly double annual export capacity to about 28 Mtpa and is expected to begin commercial operations in the early 2030s. The expansion, worth tens of billions of dollars, comes as Asian buyers face the largest supply shock in years; the Iran conflict and a tightening blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have accelerated demand for non‑Middle East supply. Prime Minister Carney said Canada could help fill the gap and has listed the LNG expansion as a national 'nation-building' major project.
