Ministry of Water Resources minister Li Guoying said at a State Council Information Office briefing on Sept. 30 the ministry will accelerate construction of basin flood-control and disaster-reduction systems and aims to add 15 bln cubic meters of reservoir capacity by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan.

President Trump told reporters he has a candidate in mind for a proposed government AI chief and named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as a possible choice, Axios reported. The role’s responsibilities remain unspecified; Trump has previously proposed creating a new government AI Force. Clayton told his July confirmation hearing, echoing Treasury Secretary Bessent, that AI is both an opportunity and a threat for the intelligence community. Trump said he hopes to make a decision within three to four days.

Riksbank minutes said if growth and inf remain on their current path the bank expects to begin tightening later this year; policy rate is unchanged at 1.75%. Governor Thedéen said a November rate increase would be reasonable. The bank has held rates since September 2025. A weak Swedish krona has lifted inf pressure, and with markets expecting another ECB hike this year Riksbank tightening in the coming months is seen as likely, though some analysts expect action only in December.
